Coach? Why?!

Many people ask me "Why are you a Fitness Coach/Consultant"? Well, there are many reasons why I love coaching/consulting. The main reason is because I love to motivate people and inspire them to be the best they can be. Secondly I do it to motivate myself. I'm very much a "lead by example" kind of person, so that works out great for me. I can't very well expect people to workout and eat healthy if I'm not doing it myself. Thirdly I hope to someday make Coaching my full-time job, and not just something I do on the side. Yes, I am THAT passionate about it that I could spend the rest of my life doing it!

I think the United States, as a whole, really needs people who share my passion for fitness to go out and help people who are a little less motivated than we are. The USA is the most obese country in the world- YES, the WORLD!!! Click here and see for yourself if you don't believe me. This makes my heart hurt. Whats worse: 1 in every 3 children in America is obese!! It is past time to eradicate this problem.

So- the most common thing I hear when I am approaching someone who is still on the fence about getting fit is- "Eating healthy is expensive!". Well, yes and no. Yes, it more expensive when you go to the grocery store. Example: buying carrots in a can @ $1.00 VS buying them fresh @ $2.50 a bag IS more expensive- buying a bag of potato chips @ $3.00 a bag VS buying a bag of apples @ $4.99 a bag IS more expensive. BUT, lets think beyond the grocery store. How about when you go the doctor for your annual check up and they tell you that you have high cholesterol (which is mostly related to how you eat and exercise). You now have to be put on a daily medication to control your cholesterol ($4-$50 monthly average, depending on your insurance coverage/self-pay cost). You will also have to return to the doctor in 3-4 months for follow up lab work to check your cholesterol again to see if the medication is helping. Suppose the medication is helping- you will then have to follow up at your doctor every 6 months indefinitely to have your cholesterol rechecked and get medication refills. SO- when you consider how much an office visit is for your doctor (and if you don't have insurance, it can be VERY costly)- spending a few extra $$$'s each week on healthy food doesn't seem so bad anymore, does it? Eating healthy is a PREVENTATIVE medicine.

Before I get off my soapbox about eating healthy- I would also like to take a moment to talk to the parents. Friendly reminder- the foods you are feeding your children NOW- will become a staple in their diet when they are older. If you teach healthy eating habits from the start- your children will WANT those foods later in life- they will CRAVE nutritious foods that YOU have taught them to eat. Just think about that.

If you have read this, then it proves to me that not only are you now tired of reading- but that you have some kind of interest in what I am saying. If you or someone you know could benefit from having a fitness coach/consultant in their life- please let me know! This is what I do and what I love to do. I  promise you I am not a 100 lb little pack of muscles! I work everyday on improving my body and I have more than my fair share of fat that I am working to get rid of. The point of me saying this? I am your peer, I am right there with you in your journey to become a better you- I am not perfect, I am not your fitness superior! Just think it over- contact me when you are ready =). Oh and by the way- my coaching/consulting is FREE. You can't beat that price!
